POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

INVESTIGATOR/MITIGATION SPECIALIST

Equal Access is seeking an experienced Investigator/Mitigation for its Federal Sentence Mitigation Investigation and Analysis Unit. The Investigator/Mitigation Specialist is required to play an integral role in the development and presentation of both guilt phase and penalty phase issues, including, most importantly, mitigation. The Investigator/Mitigation Specialist is responsible for locating and interviewing witnesses, serving subpoenas, retrieving documents and other evidence, and assisting the team in the development of theories and bases for relief.

Applicants must possess extensive investigation and mitigation experience, including the development of defense mitigation presentations in federal sentencing cases. Those without demonstrated mitigation experience will be considered if the applicant possesses substantial experience with mental health or social work issues, or with the preparation of sentencing in complex matters within the federal courts.

The applicant must be able to work effectively in a team-based environment; possess strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills; and be able to work independently and set priorities to meet critical deadlines. The position also requires knowledge of federal and state court systems and familiarity with Federal Sentencing Guidelines litigation and/or complex federal civil or criminal litigation. Must possess a valid driver’s license, insurance, and own/operate a personal vehicle for business purposes. This position may require working holiday, evening and weekend hours. Ability to engage in significant travel in the 94 federal districts throughout the country is required.
